How to use the Holman QuikMix: 450mL and 1L

Holman QuikMix 450mL spray gun applying a shower spray.

Our 450mL and 1L Holman QuikMix sprayers use the same basic process, but different bottle capacities and charts. Start with the product label, then follow the section for your model. Dial numbers are settings, not millilitres per litre.

1. Work out the dose first

Measure the lawn area you will treat. Check the additive’s label for its dose, dilution, application-water requirements and suitability for hose-end spraying.

Hypothetical example, not a FUTURE GREEN dose: if a label specified 100mL per 100m², an 80m² lawn would need 80mL of product. Extra carrier water does not mean extra product. Any watering-in afterwards is a separate label instruction.

2. Choose your model’s fill line and chart

QuikMix draws liquid through a siphon tube and mixes it with hose water. The chart gives approximate total spray volume and bottle-emptying time, not the amount of concentrate to add.

Measure the required product into the bottle, then add water to the 450mL fill line, following the additive label. Use the matching 450mL chart and instructions. The bottle’s capacity is not the total volume sprayed onto the lawn.

Measure the required product for your planned batch, then add water to reach 1L total in the bottle, not another litre. Use the 1L chart and instructions, not the smaller bottle’s chart. A larger bottle does not mean doubling the product dose on the same lawn.

Check the chart supplied with your bottle. Online examples and videos can show different bottle sizes or chart versions. If the bottle and instructions disagree, confirm with Holman before adding product.

Read the product label, measure the dose, top up the QuikMix bottle, then use the matching bottle chart.

3. Practise with water only

This check estimates how much water a full bottle will spray and how long it takes. Your chosen product may flow differently from water.

  1. Clean the sprayer. Check that its siphon tube is attached. Fill the bottle with clean water to the marked fill line and select a suitable chart setting.
  2. Keeping the nozzle above a clean graduated bucket, collect all output until the bottle is nearly empty and it stops drawing water normally. Use enough bucket capacity, record the total litres and spraying time, and note any liquid left in the bottle.
  3. Repeat with the same hose, tap, thumb control, spray pattern and gun angle. The collected total already includes the bottle water; do not add it again.
  4. Refill with clean water and practise covering your measured lawn evenly within the time measured in the test. Watch the bottle too, rather than relying only on the timer.

Check that you can meet both the product dose for your area and the label’s dilution and water-volume instructions. If not, change the setting or batch plan and retest. Do not change the product dose just to suit a dial.

4. Apply evenly, then flush

Once the water-only check is consistent, prepare the labelled product amount using the confirmed chart. Keep your setup and pace steady. Watch how quickly the bottle empties; product may pass through it differently from water.

If the bottle stops drawing with substantial liquid remaining, starts filling with hose water or empties unexpectedly, stop and investigate. Do not compensate with extra product or repeated overlapping passes. Particles can block this liquid-additive sprayer, so check compatibility before use.

Follow all label precautions and clean-up directions. Holman instructs users to flush the bottle with water on level 8 after use.
