How water moved in a hydrophobic sand bench test
A September 2024 development test compared three samples: water alone, water with a sand-conditioning formulation, and water with the conditioner plus liquid biochar. Each started with 100 g of hydrophobic sand and 40 g of water. A second stage introduced a further 100 g of sand.
What was observed
The test record follows the samples at 30 seconds and three minutes, then during drying and after rewetting. The investigator described beading and runoff in the water-only sample and better wetting and water holding in the conditioned samples.
What can be concluded?
This was a bench demonstration using a development formulation. The record does not establish a field irrigation saving, a turf application rate, or equivalence to the current retail formulation. Compare water distribution at root depth under your own irrigation conditions.
